DESCRIPTION:We are a small church\, but big on Grace. We gather each Sunday
at 11:00 am for worship by singing hymns\, hearing readings from the bibl
e\, praying together and a celebration of Holy Communion. Communion is the
spiritual bread our bodies need to live. All are invited to join us at th
e Lord's table to be fed by his heavenly food\, There are no strangers in
God’s house\, and if you choose to worship with us\, we would be honored b
y your presence.\nIntroduction\nInvited and inviting—that is the nature of
the church. By God’s grace in holy baptism we have a place at Christ’s ba
nquet table. When\, by the power of that same Spirit\, humility and mutual
love continue among us\, the church can be more inviting still.\n \n \nPr
ayer of the Day\nO God\, you resist those who are proud and give grace to
those who are humble. Give us the humility of your Son\, that we may embod
y the generosity of Jesus Christ\, our Savior and Lord.\nAmen.\nFirst Read
ing: \nProverbs 25:6-7a The book of Proverbs is part of a collection of wr
itings known as wisdom literature. Wisdom literature gave directions to Is
rael’s leaders and people for the conduct of daily life. Today’s reading i
s about humility.\n \nPsalm: 112 The righteous are merciful and full of co
 mpassion. (Ps. 112:4)\n \nSecond Reading:  \nHebrews 13:1-8\, 15-16 The co
nclusion of the letter to the Hebrews contains suggestions for the conduct
of a holy life\, all of which are shaped by God’s love toward us in Jesus
  Christ.\n \nGospel:  Luke 14:1\, 7-14\nJesus observes guests jockeying fo
r position at the table. He uses the opportunity to teach his hearers to c
hoose humility rather than self-exaltation. Jesus also makes an appeal for
hosts to imitate God’s gracious hospitality to those in need.\n1  On one
occasion when Jesus was going to the house of a leader of the Pharisees to
eat a meal on the Sabbath\, they were watching him closely.  \n7  When he
noticed how the guests chose the places of honor\, he told them a parable
.\n8  “When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet\, do not sit d
own at the place of honor\, in case someone more distinguished than you ha
s been invited by your host\,\n9  and the host who invited both of you may
come and say to you\, ‘Give this person your place\,’ and then in disgrac
e you would start to take the lowest place.\n10  But when you are invited\
, go and sit down at the lowest place\, so that when your host comes\, he
may say to you\, ‘Friend\, move up higher’\; then you will be honored in t
he presence of all who sit at the table with you.\n11  For all who exalt t
hemselves will be humbled\, and those who humble themselves will be exalte
d.”  \n12  He said also to the one who had invited him\, “When you give a
luncheon or a dinner\, do not invite your friends or your brothers and sis
ters or your relatives or rich neighbors\, in case they may invite you in
return\, and you would be repaid.\n13  But when you give a banquet\, invit
e the poor\, the crippled\, the lame\, and the blind.\n14  And you will be
blessed because they cannot repay you\, for you will be repaid at the res
urrection of the righteous.”\n \nAfter the Sermon\, Holy Communion will be
offered. Come as you are\, the gift of the Table of the Lord has been pre
pared as Jesus has requested and now we are invited to the meal. Come to t
he table like Peter\, with m ore enthusiasm than resolve and like James an
d John\, disappointed and the priorities of God’s reign. Come to the table
like Martha\, hosting and leading with confidence like Mary\, full of lov
e and grief. Come to the table like Judas\, disillusioned and rebellious a
nd like Mary Magdalene\, faithful till the end. Come to the table\, becaus
e it is God who invites us and it’s God’s will that those who want to shou
ld meet God here.\nBlessing for the day (Our blessing is an adaptation of
a Franciscan Prayer)\nMay God bless us with discomfort at a Easy answers\,
half truths and superficial leaderships so that we may live out God’s wil
l deep in our heartland in our world.\nMay god bless with anger at injusti
ce\, oppression and exploration and the environments that we may work for
justice\, freedom and peace.\nMay God bless us with tears to shed for thos
e who suffer from pain\, rejection\, hunger and war so that we may reach o
ut with hands and hearts to help them\, walk with them and turn their pain
into hope and joy.\nAnd may God bless us with enough foolishness to belie
ve that we can make a difference in this world\, so that we can do what ot
hers claim cannot be done. To bring justice\, peace\, hope and love to all
children\, the poor and all others in any need.\nGod be your comfort\, yo
ur strength\; God be your hope and support\;\nGod be your light and your w
ay\; and the blessing of God Creator\, Redeemer and Giver of Life\, remain
with you now and forever. https://messiahofthemountains.org/events/event/
