DESCRIPTION:We are a small church\, but big on Grace. We gather each Sunday
at 11:00 am for worship by singing hymns\, hearing readings from the bibl
e\, praying together and a celebration of Holy Communion. Communion is the
spiritual bread our bodies need to live. All are invited to join us at th
e Lord's table to be fed by his heavenly food\, There are no strangers in
God’s house\, and if you choose to worship with us\, we would be honored b
y your presence.\nIntroduction\nA little faith goes a long way is Jesus’ p
oint in the gospel. A mustard seed’s-worth of faith has miraculous potenti
al. The patience\, tenacity\, and endurance required for the life of faith
are the blessings received in holy baptism\, holy communion\, and the wor
d read and proclaimed in this assembly. Anticipate them. Receive them with
  thanksgiving.\n \n \nPrayer of the Day\nBenevolent\, merciful God: When w
e are empty\, fill us. When we are weak in faith\, strengthen us. When we
are cold in love\, warm us\, that with fervor we may love our neighbors an
d serve them for the sake of your Son\, Jesus Christ\, our Savior and Lord
.\nAmen.\nFirst Reading: Habakkuk 1:1-4\; 2:1-4\nInjustice and violence in
the time leading up to the Babylonian exile move this prophet to lament:
How can a good and all-powerful God see evil in the world and seemingly re
main indifferent? God answers by proclaiming that the righteous will live
by faith.\n \nPsalm: 37:1-9\nCommit your way to the Lord\; put your trust
in the Lord. (Ps. 37:5)\n \nSecond Reading:  2 Timothy 1:1-14\nThis letter
written to Timothy is a personal message of encouragement. In the face of
hardship and persecution\, Timothy is reminded that his faith is a gift o
f God. He is encouraged to exercise that faith with the help of the Holy S
pirit.\n \nGospel:  Luke 17:5-10\nOn the way to Jerusalem\, Jesus instruct
s his followers about the power of faith and the duties of discipleship. H
e calls his disciples to adopt the attitude of servants whose actions are
responses to their identity rather than works seeking reward.\n5  The apos
tles said to the Lord\, “Increase our faith!”\n6  The Lord replied\, “If y
ou had faith the size of a mustard seed\, you could say to this mulberry t
ree\, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea\,’ and it would obey you.  \n7
“Who among you would say to your slave who has just come in from plowing o
r tending sheep in the field\, ‘Come here at once and take your place at t
 he table’?\n8  Would you not rather say to him\, ‘Prepare supper for me\;
put on your apron and serve me while I eat and drink\; later you may eat a
nd drink’?\n9  Do you thank the slave for doing what was commanded?\n10  S
o you also\, when you have done all that you were ordered to do\, say\, ‘W
e are worthless slaves\; we have done only what we ought to have done!’ ”
\n \nAfter the Sermon\, Holy Communion will be offered. Come as you are\,
the gift of the Table of the Lord has been prepared as Jesus has requested
and now we are invited to the meal. Come to the table like Peter\, with m
ore enthusiasm than resolve and like James and John\, disappointed and th
e priorities of God’s reign. Come to the table like Martha\, hosting and l
eading with confidence like Mary\, full of love and grief. Come to the tab
le like Judas\, disillusioned and rebellious and like Mary Magdalene\, fai
thful till the end. Come to the table\, because it is God who invites us a
nd it’s God’s will that those who want to should meet God here.\nBlessing
for the day (Our blessing is an adaptation of a Franciscan Prayer)\nMay Go
d bless us with discomfort at a Easy answers\, half truths and superficial
leaderships so that we may live out God’s will deep in our heartland in o
ur world.\nMay god bless with anger at injustice\, oppression and explorat
ion and the environments that we may work for justice\, freedom and peace.
\nMay God bless us with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain\, rej
ection\, hunger and war so that we may reach out with hands and hearts to
help them\, walk with them and turn their pain into hope and joy.\nAnd may
God bless us with enough foolishness to believe that we can make a differ
ence in this world\, so that we can do what others claim cannot be done. T
o bring justice\, peace\, hope and love to all children\, the poor and all
others in any need.\nGod be your comfort\, your strength\;\nGod be your h
ope and support\;\nGod be your light and your way\; and the blessing of Go
d Creator\, Redeemer and Giver of Life\, remain with you now and forever.
