DESCRIPTION:We are a small church\, but big on Grace. We gather each Sunday
at 11:00 am for worship by singing hymns\, hearing readings from the bibl
e\, praying together and a celebration of Holy Communion. Communion is the
spiritual bread our bodies need to live. All are invited to join us at th
e Lord's table to be fed by his heavenly food\, There are no strangers in
God’s house\, and if you choose to worship with us\, we would be honored b
y your presence.\nIntroduction\nGenuine repentance and pretentious piety s
tand in stark contrast in the gospel and all around us. All creation stand
s in need of God’s forgiveness. Keep the faith. God’s people shall be acco
unted righteous for Jesus’ sake. Our God is merciful to sinners. For this
 we worship and glorify God forever.\n \n \nPrayer of the Day\nHoly God\, o
ur righteous judge\, daily your mercy surprises us with everlasting forgiv
eness. Strengthen our hope in you\, and grant that all the peoples of the
earth may find their glory in you\, through Jesus Christ\, our Savior and
 Lord.\nAmen.\nFirst Reading: Jeremiah 14:7-10\, 19-22\nIn a time of drough
t\, the people pray for mercy\, repenting of their sins and the sins of th
eir ancestors. They appeal to God to remember the covenant\, to show forth
  God’s power\, and to heal their land by sending life-giving rain.\n \nPsa
lm: 84:1-7\nHappy are the people whose strength is in you. (Ps. 84:5)\n \n
Second Reading:  2 Timothy 4:6-8\, 16-18\nThe conclusion of this letter to
a young minister offers a final perspective on life from one who faced de
ath. Though others let him down\, Paul was sure of his faith in the Lord\,
who stood by him and lent him strength.\n \nGospel:  Luke 18:9-14\nThe co
ming reign of God will involve unexpected reversals of fortune with judgme
nt rooted in mercy. Jesus tells a parable in which the one who humbles him
self is exalted and the one who exalts his own righteousness is humbled.\n
9  [Jesus] also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that t
hey were righteous and regarded others with contempt:\n10  “Two men went u
p to the temple to pray\, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.\n1
 1  The Pharisee\, standing by himself\, was praying thus\, ‘God\, I thank
you that I am not like other people: thieves\, rogues\, adulterers\, or ev
 en like this tax collector.\n12  I fast twice a week\; I give a tenth of a
ll my income.’\n13  But the tax collector\, standing far off\, would not e
ven lift up his eyes to heaven but was beating his breast and saying\, ‘Go
d\, be merciful to me\, a sinner!’\n14  I tell you\, this man went down to
his home justified rather than the other\, for all who exalt themselves w
ill be humbled\, but all who humble themselves will be exalted.”\n \nAfter
the Sermon\, Holy Communion will be offered. Come as you are\, the gift o
f the Table of the Lord has been prepared as Jesus has requested and now w
e are invited to the meal. Come to the table like Peter\, with m ore enthu
siasm than resolve and like James and John\, disappointed and the prioriti
es of God’s reign. Come to the table like Martha\, hosting and leading wit
h confidence like Mary\, full of love and grief. Come to the table like Ju
das\, disillusioned and rebellious and like Mary Magdalene\, faithful till
the end. Come to the table\, because it is God who invites us and it’s Go
d’s will that those who want to should meet God here.\nBlessing for the da
y (Our blessing is an adaptation of a Franciscan Prayer)\nMay God bless us
with discomfort at a Easy answers\, half truths and superficial leadershi
ps so that we may live out God’s will deep in our heartland in our world.
\nMay god bless with anger at injustice\, oppression and exploration and t
he environments that we may work for justice\, freedom and peace.\nMay God
bless us with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain\, rejection\,
hunger and war so that we may reach out with hands and hearts to help them
\, walk with them and turn their pain into hope and joy.\nAnd may God bles
s us with enough foolishness to believe that we can make a difference in t
his world\, so that we can do what others claim cannot be done. To bring j
ustice\, peace\, hope and love to all children\, the poor and all others i
n any need.\nGod be your comfort\, your strength\;\nGod be your hope and s
upport\;\nGod be your light and your way\; and the blessing of God Creator
\, Redeemer and Giver of Life\, remain with you now and forever. https://m
