 hip with us\, we would be honored by your presence.\n \nIntroduction to to
 days service.\nJesus’ summary of the law in today’s gospel echoes our firs
 t reading from Leviticus. We are called not only to love God with heart\, 
 soul\, and mind\, but also to love our neighbor as ourselves. It is out of
  such deep care that Paul shares the gospel with the Thessalonian communit
 y. In the confession of sins\, we acknowledge that we have not loved God\,
  neighbor\, and self\; yet we gather to hear the word of forgiveness and t
 o be strengthened by word and meal to be signs of God’s love and mercy in 
 the world.\n \nPrayer of the Day\nO Lord God\, you are the holy lawgiver\,
  you are the salvation of your people. By your Spirit renew us in your cov
 enant of love\, and train us to care tenderly for all our neighbors\, thro
 ugh Jesus Christ\, our Savior and Lord.\n \nAmen.\nFirst Reading: Leviticu
 s 19:1-2\, 15-18\nThe Holiness Code in Leviticus urges people to be holy b
 ecause God is holy. Holiness is lived out as God’s people exercise justice
  and love in their dealings with one another. We are to love our neighbors
  as ourselves.\nPsalm: 1\nTheir delight is in the law of the Lord. (Ps. 1:
 2)\nSecond Reading:  1 Thessalonians 2:1-8\nPaul uses maternal imagery to 
 depict the caring and nurturing relationship he shares with the Thessaloni
 an Christians. When he first came to their city it was not to benefit hims
 elf but to share the gospel with them\, which was his responsibility as an
  apostle of Christ.\nGospel:  Matthew 22:34-46\nPut on the spot by the Pha
 risees\, Jesus displays wisdom by summarizing the law of God in just two c
 ommandments and by demonstrating the Messiah must be more than the son of 
 David.\n34  When the Pharisees heard that [Jesus] had silenced the Sadduce
 es\, they gathered together\,\n35  and one of them\, an expert in the law\
 , asked him a question to test him.\n36  “Teacher\, which commandment in t
 he law is the greatest?”\n37  He said to him\, “ ‘You shall love the Lord 
 your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind
 .’\n38  This is the greatest and first commandment.\n39  And a second is l
 ike it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’\n40  On these two comm
 andments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”  \n41  Now while the Pharisee
 s were gathered together\, Jesus asked them this question:\n42  “What do y
 ou think of the Messiah? Whose son is he?” They said to him\, “The son of 
 David.”\n43  He said to them\, “How is it then that David by the Spirit ca
 lls him Lord\, saying\,  \n44  ‘The Lord said to my Lord\,  “Sit at my rig
 ht hand\,   until I put your enemies under your feet” ’?\n45  “If David th
 us calls him Lord\, how can he be his son?”\n46  No one was able to give h
 im an answer\, nor from that day did anyone dare to ask him any more quest
 ions.\n \nAfter the Sermon\, Holy Communion will be offered. Come as you a
 re\, the gift of the Table of the Lord has been prepared as Jesus has requ
 ested and now we are invited to the meal. Come to the table like Peter\, w
 ith more enthusiasm than resolve and like James and John\, disappointed an
 d the priorities of God’s reign. Come to the table like Martha\, hosting a
 nd leading with confidence like Mary\, full of love and grief. Come to the
  table like Judas\, disillusioned and rebellious and like Mary Magdalene\,
  faithful till the end. Come to the table\, because it is God who invites 
 us and it’s God’s will that those who want to should meet God here.\nBless

 y God bless us with discomfort at a Easy answers\, half truths and superfi
 cial leaderships so that we may live out God’s will deep in our heartland 
 in our world.\nMay god bless with anger at injustice\, oppression and expl
 oration and the environments that we may work for justice\, freedom and pe
 ace.\nMay God bless us with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain\,
  rejection\, hunger and war so that we may reach out with hands and hearts
  to help them\, walk with them and turn their pain into hope and joy.\nAnd
  may God bless us with enough foolishness to believe that we can make a di
 fference in this world\, so that we can do what others claim cannot be don
 e. To bring justice\, peace\, hope and love to all children\, the poor and
  all others in any need.\nGod be your comfort\, your strength\;\nGod be yo
 ur hope and support\;\nGod be your light and your way\; and the blessing o
 f God Creator\, Redeemer and Giver of Life\, remain with you now and forev
